چکیده

The goal of network design is to meet the needs of resi dent applications in an e cient manner Adding real time service and point to multipoint multicast routing to the In ternet s traditional point to point best e ort service model will greatly increase the Internet s e ciency in handling point to multipoint real time applications Recently the RSVP resource reservation protocol has introduced the con cept of reservation styles which control how reservations are aggregated in multipoint to multipoint real time appli cations In this paper which is an extension of we an alytically evaluate the e ciency gains o ered by this new paradigm on three simple network topologies linear m tree and star We compare the resource utilization of more tradi tional reservation approaches to the RSVP reservation styles in the asymptotic limit of large multipoint applications We nd that in several cases the e ciency improvements scale linearly in the number of hosts

The goal of network design is to meet the needs of resident applications in an eecient manner. Adding real-time service and point-to-multipoint multicast routing to the In-ternet's traditional point-to-point best eeort service model will greatly increase the Internet's eeciency in handling point-to-multipoint real-time applications. Recently, the RSVP resource reservation protocol has introduce...

An Architectural Comparison of ST II and RSVP USC CS

This paper presents a comparative analysis of two resource reservation protocols ST II and RSVP in support of an Integrated Services Packet Net work ISPN We use simulations to examine the network wide resource requirements for each proto col to support a number of application communication styles across a range of group sizes and membership distributions We also present a comparison of the prot...

RSVP Standards Today and the Path Towards a Generic Messenger

The Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) specified in RFC2205 has evolved from ST-II (RFC1819) to provide end-to-end QoS signaling services for application data streams. Hosts use RSVP to request a specific quality of service (QoS) reservation from the network for particular application flows. RSVP maintains and refreshes reservation states in routers for a requested QoS application flow. By or...

A Simple Resource Reservation Protocol for Multicast Communications

In this paper we propose a framework for a simple resource reservation protocol for multicast communications in the Internet. In contrast to RSVP, where heavy setup mechanisms are used, our protocol is traffic driven and does not use special messages for resource reservation, refresh or release. The reservation session is managed by the flow data packets themselves. Our protocol is suitable for...

VC Management for Heterogeneous QoS Multicast Transmissions

A crucial component of the interaction between ATM’s and the Internet’s Quality of Servcice (QoS) architectures is the efficient mapping of RSVP (Resource reSerVation Protocol) as the Internet’s signalling protocol onto the according ATM mechanisms. In particular, this article focuses on one of the most contrary characteristics of RSVP and ATM signalling. This is the support for heterogeneous r...
